Growing up, I participated in recreational sports and did other casual activities with family and friends like hiking and rollerblading (don’t laugh, it’s actually a good leg workout). The main appeal of being on a team was spending time with my friends. Since entering the real world, I’ve had spurts of working out, but never found something I could stay consistent with and I’d always give up after a couple months.
In January 2016, I wasn’t doing anything physical other than a 30 minute walk at work during lunch every day and occasionally going for hikes with my husband on the weekends. I was trying to get into doing HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workouts 2-3 times a week, but couldn’t stay motivated enough to wake up 30-60 minutes early. I realized I hated pretty much every second of the HIIT workouts which is why I couldn’t find the motivation to stick with it.
I thought back to all the activities I’d done since college and there was a few months stint where I started with run/walking and worked up to running for 40 minutes straight. I decided to choose running as “my thing,” but knew I needed two things to be successful: a plan and a “team” to keep me accountable.
I knew if I signed up to run a half marathon (13.1 miles) it wasn’t a distance I could just “wing” without any training so I would be forced to not skip workouts and if I told everyone about it, they would keep me accountable. On March 1, 2016, I signed up for a race, got a beginners training program, started running and told the world about it on social media. By the time this post is live, I will have run over 480 miles, completed 4 races, lost 2 toenails. As I hit new milestones, I also regained confidence in myself and my ability to do what I once thought was impossible.
New Milestones and Making the Commitment
So where does Enso Rings fit into all of this? I am married and wear my engagement ring and wedding band all the time. I ran a total of one time while wearing my rings because my hands swelled up so much my rings were painful to wear. I tried running a couple times without my rings, but it felt weird not having something there, especially when I unconsciously went to adjust them and then freaked out thinking I’d somehow lost them.
I searched online for a silicone ring I could wear, and fell in love with the Enso Stackables. I love how thin they are and I can mix and match different colors to fit my mood or outfit. I still wear my “real” rings during the work week, but I wear my Stackables at night, during workouts and on the weekends. I started with three colors, but as I hit different milestones, I’ve decided to treat myself and expand my collection. It’s going to be hard to collect them all since Enso keeps creating new, awesome colors, but that doesn’t mean I won’t try!
